Narendra Modi Oath as Prime minister of india 2024
Narendra Modi is expected to take the oath as India’s Prime Minister on Sunday, June 9, according to sources. He resigned on Wednesday, presenting his resignation letter to President Droupadi Murmu, who accepted it and asked him to remain in his position until the new government is formed. Originally, Telugu Desam Party leader Chandrababu Naidu was to be sworn in as Andhra Pradesh’s Chief Minister on Sunday, but this has been postponed to June 12 due to Modi’s ceremony, which was initially set for Saturday, June 8.
Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony will be a high-profile event, with many international leaders in attendance, including Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Nepal’s Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, and Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. The BJP-led NDA won 293 out of 543 seats in the Lok Sabha elections, just surpassing the majority mark. The opposition INDIA bloc secured 234 seats, performing unexpectedly well in BJP strongholds like Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra.
On Wednesday, Narendra Modi held the final meeting of his Modi 2.0 Cabinet and Council of Ministers to review the election results and discuss the new government’s formation. He also led an NDA meeting to discuss the details of forming the government. Modi is set to be sworn in as Prime Minister for the third consecutive time on Saturday, after being chosen as the leader by his allies during a key meeting in Delhi.
The invitation list for Modi’s oath ceremony includes top South Asian leaders, aligning with the government’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy. Bangladesh and Sri Lankan leaders have confirmed their attendance after speaking with Narendra Modi. Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s office announced his acceptance of the invitation and congratulated Modi on his victory. Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who was one of the first to congratulate Modi, will arrive in Delhi on Friday, a day before the event. Invitations have also been sent to Nepal’s Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ Bhutan’s Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, and Mauritius’ Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth.
Despite the BJP securing 240 seats, falling short of the majority, the NDA has comfortably crossed the necessary threshold with 293 seats. NDA partners, including Chandrababu Naidu of the Telugu Desam Party and Nitish Kumar of Janata Dal-United, met at Modi’s residence and unanimously selected him as their leader. In 2014, SAARC country leaders attended Modi’s swearing-in, while in 2019, leaders from BIMSTEC countries were present.
